Employment and Equalities

At Southwark Council, we are proud to have a workforce that reflects the diversity of our borough. Our workforce is integral to meeting our equality and diversity objectives.

Employment opportunities

If you are interested in job opportunities you can view information about working for Southwark Council and the council’s employment policies.

We monitor our recruitment practices to check that we are employing people in a fair and non-discriminatory way. We also publish annual workforce reports.

We survey our staff regularly, at least once every two years, specifically questioning perceptions around the council's equality policy and practice.

Support for staff and applicants

Southwark is an accredited member of the Two Ticks Disability Scheme, which is recognition by the employment service that we are meeting commitments on the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of disabled people.

We also have a disabled staff group, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff group, a women's network and Black and minority ethnic staff consultative group to support our staff and provide a forum for change within the council.
