What Does the Corporate Assessment Involve?

There are three parts to the assessment

1. Self-assessment – February 4

This is a report we put together, making use of case studies and other supporting evidence to show our strengths and how we are facing up to our challenges.

2. Analysis week – February 25 to 29

A team of inspectors will visit the borough to review the documents the council submitted as part of the self-assessment. These include case studies, inspection reports, performance indicators and strategy documents. They will also get to know the borough with a short tour. By the end of the week, they will tell us what areas of the council and its services they want to investigate further in April.

3. On-site inspection – March 31 to April 11

The inspectors will return for two weeks when they will take a closer look at how the council is managed and how well we work with our partner organisations. This fieldwork will include interviews with our corporate management team, senior managers and members as well as focus groups with frontline staff, residents and some of our stakeholders and partners. They will also sit in on a variety of meetings.

What do the inspectors want to know?

The inspectors will measure us against five criteria

  • Ambition What are we trying to achieve?
  • Prioritisation How have we prioritised?
  • Capacity Are we maximising the use of our resources?
  • Performance management Are our services good and can we show how we are improving?
  • Achievements in
  1. Sustainable communities and transport
  2. Safer and stronger communities
  3. Healthier communities
  4. Older people
  5. Children and young people (through the joint area review)

When will they report their findings?

The inspectors will produce a draft report in May and a final one in July.
