How Good is Your Council?Southwark Council is a three star local authority that is judged to be improving well and delivering value for money for the wider community.
This is the official rating of the Audit Commission, which assesses how well every authority in England and Wales is performing through an annual comprehensive performance assessment (CPA).
A story of improvement
A rating of three stars and improving well is recognition of the progress the council and its partners have made since the Audit Commission considered Southwark a weak council in 2002.
In 2003, the council moved up the rankings to fair, and in 2004 further improvements resulted in a rating of good.
In 2005, the Audit Commission introduced a harder test, which rates authorities on a scale of zero to four stars. Against this, we have continued to make improvements and this has been recognised with a rating of three stars and improving well every year since.
