Healthcare for London, Pan London Joint Health Scrutiny Committee

The pan London joint health scrutiny committee will review proposals to introduce key changes to healthcare services across London. The committee members include councillors from all 32 London boroughs, the City of London, and five out of London local authorities.

Background

In 2006 the NHS London commissioned professor Sir Ara Darzi to undertake a review of London's healthcare. The findings of the review and proposals for reform A framework for action  were published in July 2007.

Local authority health scrutiny committees are sometimes required to establish a joint committee with other authorities. This occurs when there are proposed changes to health services that are seen as substantial and that affect more than one local authority area. As the Darzi report proposes significant changes across London, all London local authorities have been invited to be involved.

Aims of the joint committee

The committee will scrutinise both key stages of the consultation. Stage one will seek views on the models set out in the report, and stage two will focus on the application of the models.
