Nunhead and Peckham Rye the People

Famous SE15 residents have included people from a variety of walks of life, from equal rights campaigner Dr Harold Moody to artists Tom Phillips and Anthony Gormley to two sets of brothers, footballers Rio and Anton Ferdinand and musicians Matt and Luke Goss. And of course England and Arsenal defender Mary Phillip is from Peckham.

Today, around 36,000 people call the Nunhead and Peckham Rye area home. Around 62 percent of residents are white British, slightly lower than the rest of Southwark. And 14 percent are Black Caribbean, nearly double that of the rest of Southwark. We have the lowest proportion of Chinese and the highest proportion of mixed race people at four percent.

Around a quarter of residents were born outside the European Union. In addition, people from the new EU countries in Eastern Europe, particularly Poland, have recently settled here.

Not surprisingly we follow a mix of religions and no religion. Around 61 percent of us are Christian, 21 percent have no religion, 10 percent haven't stated a religion, 5 percent of us are Muslim, 1 percent are Buddhist, 1 percent are Hindu and 1 percent are Jewish.

Around 20 percent of the population are under 15. And ten percent are over 65.
