St Giles Church was built in 1844, replacing a smaller church that had been destroyed by fire. Its tall spire is a Camberwell landmark and inside there is a stained glass window by John Ruskin.
Camberwell Leisure Centre was originally Camberwell Baths, built in 1891. This striking Victorian building has a passionate following of community supporters.
Camberwell is famed for its elegant Georgian houses, particularly those on Camberwell Grove.
Camberwell has many examples of buildings built in the grand style in the early 20th century to provide housing for the poorest people. These include the Peabody Trust buildings on Camberwell Green, Evelina Mansions on New Church Road and the Samuel Lewis buildings on Warner Road.
Nearly all the houses in Camberwell suffered bomb damage in World War II. 5,650 were totally destroyed.
The magistrates court on Camberwell Green was built in 1969.
