Mayor launches diabetes charity drive The Mayor of Southwark has launched a major charity effort to raise funds for a mobile diabetes diagnosis unit that can tour the borough. This will provide free blood tests to residents to help prevent the early onset of the disease.
Diabetes UK has been chosen by the Worshipful Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Eliza Mann, as the charity she will work with during her term in office to raise awareness and promote the importance of early diagnosis and healthy living.
When the funds are raised, the mobile diabetes diagnosis unit will provide an invaluable service to the residents of Southwark and be visible at local events.
The mayor will be launching her campaign on July 28 and fundraising events will run throughout her term in office, including:
- September 24 - a civic service at Southwark Cathedral
- November 10 to 14 - Southwark Diabetes Week
- November 14 - International Diabetes Day
- May 2 2009 - Mayor’s Ball
All contributions to the charity appeal are received with thanks from the Mayor.
