The Olympics comes to Camberwell GreenCelebrate the moment London becomes the official Olympic City, and join in with a huge party taking place across the capital. 
Southwark is warming up for the 2012 Olympics and will be marking the Olympics handover in Camberwell Green on Sunday August 24 from 1pm to 5pm. Two large screens will show the official closing ceremony in Beijing, and local residents - and their families and friends – are invited to celebrate the moment London becomes the official Olympic City.
Opening speeches from the Mayor of Southwark and Councillor Robinson will officially welcome the Olympics and Paralympics to Southwark, and pay tribute to Southwark's cultural and sporting diversity as we raise the Olympic flag and begin the countdown to the 2012 Olympics. The Mayor will also unveil Southwark's new portable running track.
Other events on the day include:
- a gymnastic fanfare opening the track
- Southwark Community Games athletes representing each community council area
- music from local musicians, including African drumming band Kakatsitsi
- coaching tips from Southwark's local sporting hero Samson Oni
