Flavas of Peckham Festival The two day Flavas of Peckham Festival is back for the second year running and will take over Peckham Square on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December 2005.
Cooked up by Southwark Council's Peckham Programme, the festival brings together the area's many ethnic food stores for a celebration of healthy eating and seasonal cheer.
Demonstrating how to make dishes with food from around the world will be top chef and restauranteur Jenny Kieldson, Andrew McIntosh from UKTV Food and BBC London 94.9, and local chef Celia Francis.
The two day event aims to actively support and promote local traders, businesses and the Peckham Town Centre Management Group.
A hot-pot of food stalls, a fair trade and a traditional farmers' market will whet Peckham appetites for the festive season. Also in the mix is a funfair, carol and gospel singing, street performers and dancers - including the Tap Dancing Turkeys - and free tastings.
Fun activities for children include helping to build a house out of spices with local artists, and portrait etchings on fruit and vegetables by Harald Smykla.
Cllr Columba Blango, Southwark Council's executive member for culture, said: 'Peckham, and in particular Rye Lane, is home to a colourful and diverse mix of ethnic food stores. The Flavas Festival is a great way to get a real taste of SE15 cuisine and experience different foods from all over the world in one setting.'
