Storytelling Event Title

September story telling weekend

Join us for world wide story telling sessions and story box activities to launch the start of London's cultural olympiad.

  • Friday September 26, 1.30pm to 2.30pm. For younger children aged 2 to 6.
    Drop in to hear lively stories from around the world!
  • Saturday September 27, 10am to 1pm. For children aged 2 to 8.
    Hear stories from around the world and we'll help you make up your own!


Big Draw 2008 LogoBig draw Saturdays - October

Join us every Saturday morning in October and get drawing! Local artists will run sessions drawing on everything big and small at the Cuming Museum. For children aged 7 to 13.

  • Saturday October 4, 10.30am to 12noon
  • Saturday October 11, 10.30am to 12noon
  • Saturday October 18, 10.30am to 12noon
  • Saturday October 25, 10.30am to 12noon

There's no need to book. Just turn up on the day. We request that all children are accompanied by a responsible adult.

Researching Caribbean family history

Illustrated talk by Patrick Vernon, Founder of Every Generation

Find out how to research Caribbean family history. The talk will look at the practical issues around using records at libraries and archive centres. It will also explore using oral history, photographic images and recent breakthroughs in DNA technology.

The evening talk will also include an interactive debate on the issues and challenges for the African Caribbean community in tracing their family tree from the impact of slavery and colonisation. A Black History Month event

From War to Windrush: walking tour

Join Tony Warner from Black History Walking Tours, as he guides you through the Black History of Southwark. This tour will start at the Imperial War Museum From War to Windrush exhibition, and end at the Cuming Museum Keep Smiling Through: Black Londoners on the Home Front 1939-1945 exhibition.
This tour is free, but you must ring 020 7901 3034 to book your place.

    Start 11am from the Imperial War Museum
