Heart shaped charmThe Cuming Museum is now open in its new venue

The museum moved to a new fully accessible venue at 151 Walworth Road in 2006, next door to our old site. Two new permanent exhibitions explore the Cuming family collection and the story of Southwark. Both exhibitions have trails, activities and costumes for children to try.

The online database will grow as we are able to add more records and images. It includes records from the Cuming Museum collections, Southwark Art Collection and the Local History Library Historic Photographs collection.

Opening hours

The Cuming Museum is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 5pm. Admission is free.

During Christmas and New Year the museum will close from December 22 2007 and reopen on January 5 2008.

How to get here

Rail and tube: Elephant and Castle or Kennington
We are five to ten minutes walk from the Elephant and Castle tube station. Make sure you exit out of the Northern Line exit. Turn left, keeping the shopping centre on your left. Walk round the edge of the shopping centre. You'll find yourself on Walworth Road. Walk under a railway bridge. Keep heading straight across a road junction. Pass a petrol station. The Cuming Museum is on your left.

Buses: 12, 35, 40, 45, 68, 148, 171, 176, P5, 343, 468
There are bus stops immediately outside our building. We are the first stop after the Elephant and Castle shopping centre if you are heading towards Camberwell Green or Peckham. Toilets

The museum provides public toilets, including a toilet for the disabled and baby change facilities.

Access information

Our new venue is fully accessible to wheelchair users. More information about access arrangements can be found on our access page

Museum shop

The shop sells a range of books and souvenirs including

  • Local history books, publications and maps
  • Greetings cards and postcards
  • Cuming Museum linen bags
  • Small souvenirs for children such as pencils, rubbers and rulers
