Historic Southwark

History3Southwark is London’s most historic borough. It has witnessed and participated in a wide variety of important events over the centuries, playing a crucial role not only in London's history, but in shaping the very world we live in today.

History1

Unique

As we enter the third Millennium, Southwark is poised to enjoy a new birth as London's third city, linked symbolically with the Cities of London and Westminster by the new Millennium Bridge.

Southwark has played a critical role in the last two millennia in bringing growth, wealth and prosperity to the capital city of London.

It is fitting, in this third Millennium, that Southwark's contribution is finally being rewarded as a new era of prosperity and growth dawns to benefit the community of Southwark itself.
