The plaque has been erected above the door at 36 Gomm Road, the second house bought by Richard Carr Gomm for the Abbeyfield Society, which was founded in 1955 to combat loneliness amongst elderly people.

As well as the Abbeyfield Society Richard Carr Gomm also founded the Carr Gomm society and the Morpeth Society.

Speaking before the unveiling Richard Carr Gomm said, “This is a great honour for me. I’m very very touched indeed…thank you to all those who voted for me.”
