Blue Plaque Voting List 2008

The voting list is now open for you to cast your votes for people or places to receive a blue plaque. 

Below is the complete voting list, which has been divided in to community areas.  To cast your vote simply email vote4icons@southwark.gov.uk with your nomination as the subject.

Voting closes March 31 2009, so get voting!

Bermondsey

  • Bandstand in Southwark Park, since 1844
  • Peter Tatchell, human rights activist
  • Spa Road Terminus, 1836 to 1915

Borough and Bankside 

  • Bermondsey Abbey, originally a Benedictine monastery founded in 1082
  • The Old Operating Theatre, the oldest surviving operating theatre since 1822
  • Winchester Palace, 12th century palace

Camberwell Green play area

Camberwell
  • Camberwell Green and Fair, since 1279
  • Camberwell Palace of Varieties, built 1899 demolished 1956
  • Keib Thomas, dedicated to the community and diversity, 1946 to 2007
  • Kenny Sansom, Camberwell born Arsenal and England footballer

Dulwich

  • Sam Mussabini, athletics coach made famous as the coach of Harold Abrahams

  • Dame Elizabeth Cadbury DBE, English philanthropist and wife of George Cadbury, the chocolate manufacturer
  • Nunhead Cemetery, one of London’s seven, great Victorian cemeteries, consecrated 1840
  • William Blake, English poet, painter, and printmaker who had his first vision on Peckham Rye
