About the Jack Petchey Foundation
According to the recent Sunday Times Rich List, Jack Petchey OBE is amongst the country’s top ten most generous givers to education and youth. A self made successful businessman, despite being told he would never make the grade, Jack Petchey started the foundation to help youngsters take advantage of opportunities available and to play their part in society.
“Youth today get lots of bad press” said Jack Petchey OBE. “I believe we all have a responsibility to give something back to society. I want to help make London a better place for youngsters and encourage them to achieve through their own efforts. Fantastic work is being done and youngsters are gaining through the experience – now that’s good news,” he added.
Since it was established in 1999, the foundation has made £20 million available to youth groups, clubs, organisations and schools across London, particularly through the highly successful Achievement and Leaders Awards scheme.

Former East Enders actress Patsy Palmer and East ender Jack Petchey OBE marked the foundation’s move into Southwark at a recent awards event in central London. “The work being done by Jack Petchey for young people is fantastic” said Patsy Palmer. “Kids need to be encouraged to make the most of the opportunities, I know I did. Jack’s foundation is making a real difference to their confidence and their ability to help themselves,” she added.
Awards officer Lee Thompson said, “Jack’s vision is to help young people in London. The foundation is well established and we now want to support the youth in Southwark and the good work that is being done. We want as many organisations as possible to register for the information sessions”.
Jack Petchey had supported local charities and organisations for many years prior to setting up the Jack Petchey Foundation. Based in Ilford, the foundation aims to help develop the potential of young people aged 11 to 25 in London and West Essex. The foundation is eager to help youngsters take advantage of opportunities and to play their part in society.
So far £20 million has been donated to a wide range of organisations and schools within the catchment area. This year the foundation has extended its work into North and North West London and will move into South London boroughs from May 2006.
The foundation’s main methods of grant support are: achievement awards, leader awards, project grants and sponsorship.
Jack Petchey's autobiography 50/50 Man was published last year.
