Car Award SchemeIn order to address public concerns with the motor trade, we have set up a 
car trade registration scheme, The Good Practice Award, in consultation
with local car traders and the Retail Motor Industry Federation. It seeks to set minimum standards of service which consumers can expect to receive when dealing with members of the scheme.
Traders who register with us under this award scheme undertake to
- Comply with the spirit, as well as the letter of the law
- Operate a staff training policy
- Comply with the scheme's customer complaints procedure
The scheme covers all major areas of the car trade and includes
- New vehicle sales
- Used vehicle sales
- Repairs and servicing
- Parts and accessories
Current members
Inclusion of a trader on this register is only an indication they have made a commitment to meet certain minimum standards, which have been set out in our code of practice.
Inclusion on the register does not mean that the council in any way guarantees or accepts responsibility for any work undertaken by a trader, or agreements made by customer with a trader.
In every instance the decision to appoint a trader is the responsibility of the customer. Although the traders on this register have undergone a strict vetting procedure, we are unable to recommend any traders.
