SPM Print achieve Gold standardSPM Print receive their Gold Environmental Business Award

SPM Print became the latest business in Southwark to achieve a Gold Environmental Business Award. The Rotherhithe based company was presented with the award by Councillor Lisa Rajan, Executive Member for the Environment, in recognition of their excellent work in improving their sustainability. SPM Print are no strangers to receiving environmental awards. Last year, they achieved both ISO 14001 and FSC accreditation, two of the highest environmental standards available that are recognised worldwide.

Two years ago, SPM Print decided that they wanted to reduce their environmental impact and provide customers with a greener printing option. Since then, an impressive range of environmental measures have been introduced including

  • Reycling or reusing around 80 per cent of the waste stream
  • Encouraging all customers to print on recycled paper
  • Ensuring that all machinary is well maintained to minimise energy and water consumption
  • Monitoring all environmental impacts so that there can be continuous improvements
  • Keeping staff updated with all environmental improvements and developments

AGI Peckham

Cllr Lisa Rajan presented a gold environment business award to AGI Solutions' General Manager, Mr Steve Vernon, and staffSouthwark businesses are heeding the climate change challenge and doing their bit to work towards a cleaner, greener and safer environment.

AGI Solutions a Peckham based design, packaging and print company, were recently presented with a gold award by Councillor Lisa Rajan for taking steps to become more environmentlly friendly. 

They acheived this award through Southwark Council's environment business award scheme, for their efforts in reducing waste, increasing recycling, keeping their surrounding area clean and tidy, and spreading the anti littering message.

Steve Vernon, AGI's general manager, said: "We have a strong commitment to environmental best practice. It was an immense honour for us to have gained the gold award." Health and safety manager, Chris Powley, who is in charge of day-to-day environmental issues at AGI Solutions added: "This represents a great deal of hard work by our whole health, safety and environment team."

As a business located in a residential area, AGI were also particular commended for engaging with their community and working with the residents' association to improve the environment of the local area. 

Etc. venues receives gold award

Etc. venues on Avonmouth Street, a provider of conference and training rooms, received a gold award for their innovative approach to being environmentally friendly. Not only does Etc. venues recycle, they remind their guests about litter, especially cigarette butts, and they also bottle their own water on the premises to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill!

Etc. venues on Borough High Street has received a silver award, they are now working towards the gold award.

Lloyds receives first gold award

Lloyds TSB at Emerald House in Bankside was the first business to receive a gold award.

Initiatives in Emerald House include recycling on every floor for paper and other materials, regular sweeping of the building's frontage, donating income generated from mobile phones and toners to the NSPCC, and sending their stamps to their local guide dog centre.

Emerald House also took part in the Big Recycle Week, where a special collection was made for spectacles for Vision Aid Overseas.

Lloyds TSB has also pledged to cut the amount of energy they consume and, wherever practical, to specify products from sustainable sources, products made from recycled materials or designed to be easy to reuse and recycle.
