Environmental Support for Businesses in Southwark

Help to reduce your environmental impact and save money

Southwark Council is introducing a support programme for businesses in the borough who are keen to manage their resources more efficiently and identify cost savings.

Environmental Business Awards

The Environmental Business Awards provide free support, resources and advice to businesses who are making a commitment to improving their environmental performance and tackling climate change.

What do I get out of it?

Gold, silver and bronze awards will be given to businesses that achieve high standards of environmental sustainability and knowledge sharing. Winners will be promoted and receive a certificate and a window sticker that can be displayed on the premises.

What are the criteria for each award?

Bronze Awards

• Your company must comply with relevant waste legislation
• Complete a litter survey and act on this
• Make steps to educate customers about environmental issues

Silver Awards

• Fulfil Bronze level requirements plus:
• Complete a waste audit and recycle at least one waste stream
• Develop and display an environmental policy
• Complete an energy or water audit, or sign up to the Mayor’s Green Procurement Code or develop a travel plan.

Gold Awards

• Fulfil Bronze and Silver level requirements plus:
• Put initiatives in place to reduce waste by 5%
• Provide training for staff in environmental practices
• Provide evidence of an internal Environmental Management System
• Complete an energy audit and reduce energy use by 10%
• Complete a water audit and reduce water use by 5%
• Sign up to the Mayor’s Green Procurement Code
• Develop a travel plan

We can offer you advice on the steps that you can take to improve your waste, recycling and water usage, how to better utilise biodiversity, and ways to make smarter choices.

At no cost to you, we can arrange for environmental advisors from the council or independent agencies to visit your site.
