Licensing Update

Licensing Act 2003 – Saturation policies approved for Camberwell and Peckham

On November 5 2008 council assembly agreed the introduction of special policies (saturation policies) dealing with the cumulative impact of licensed premises in the Camberwell and Peckham areas of the borough.

The assembly decided that the introduction of the policies was “appropriate and necessary” having given careful consideration to

  • analysis by the partnership analyst team of figures dealing with
      - alcohol related late night crime and disorder
      - late night disorder and rowdiness associated with licensed premises
      - nuisance associated with licensed premises
  • responses received from public consultation on the matter.

These policies affect all applications for new premises licences and applications made to extend current existing premises licences, made in respect of

  • night-clubs
  • pubs and bars
  • off-licences, grocers, supermarkets, convenience stores and similar premises

located in the defined Camberwell and Peckham areas. Further information explaining the policy; the background to the introduction of the policy; and the area the policy covers, is available by following the links provided below.
