Highways Licences

Licences for scaffolding, gantries, hoarding and temporary cross-overs are issued by the Highways Section and not the Licensing Unit. These licences are normally issued to building and construction companies.

Please note that applicants for scaffold and/or gantry licences must ensure they conform to BS ISO 5973:1993 and BS ISO 5975:1996.

How to apply

The form has 3 sections and consists of 2 A4 size pages. Applicants should complete Section A of the form and then return both pages to the address in the top right hand corner of the form.

The Highways Inspector will complete Section B and return the form to the applicant with a quote for the licence deposit fee.

If the applicant accepts the quote, they should complete Section C of the form and return it to the Highways Inspector with a cheque for the amount quoted. Cheques should be made payable to Southwark Council.  

Licence fees 2004/05

The current administrative fee for all scaffolding, hoarding, gantry and temporary cross-over licences is £315.00 (Excluding VAT). Please note that this fee is non-returnable.

Applicants will be quoted a licence deposit fee. The deposit will be refunded once the scaffolding etc. has been removed providing highways inspectors have inspected the site and found that no damage has been caused.
